movies in wonderland - architecture with / out architects?
Architecture film festival in the Az W courtyard
13.08.2014 – 23.08.2014
Location: Architekturzentrum Wien - Staatsratshof
Tickets: Admission free!
Curated by wonderland – platform for European architecture and the Az W, in cooperation with frame[o]ut and MuseumsQuartier / q21
Following on the success of the film nights last summer, this year “Movies in Wonderland“ and the Az W take a close look at the role of architecture – and consequently of those who make architecture – using current international films. Does architecture in fact still play a major role in present-day tendencies and developments? Does the master plan that everything must comply with still exist? And if not, what is then the issue? What constitutes the identity of a place? How much originality can be found in the copy of an entire village? Will the “star architect” be followed by the “citizen architect”? This summer the public again has an opportunity to discuss questions about the city and architecture with planners and film-makers from throughout the world.

||First place for franz
Franz received the first place prize In a competition for student living titled: "studentenwohnheim auf zeit aspern/vienna".
The specialty of the building is it's flexibility, providing the ability to disassemble the whole building and reconstruct it on another site. it's economic, cheap (with construction costs of a maximum of € 35.000,- per student accommodation) and ecological, with a lifespan of 40 years. franz did the competition together with elk, a large prefabricated housing company.
||Land+Civilization is commissioned
Land+Civilization Compositions was commissioned by the International New Town Institute to work on the Informal Settlement site as part of the “The Density Syndicate: Research by Design” for Cape Town. L+CC will program events and provide an installation in the Singersweatshop Gallery as part of the ZigZagCity - the public space event parallel to the Rotterdam Architecture Biennale opening. And the office is currently leading the 'Rotterdam Points of View' team pursuing the Rotterdam Stadsinitiatief 2014, the same direct funding/voting program that funded/constructed the Luchtsingel in 2012.
||Cozinha Comunitária Terras da Costa
Terras da Costa is locked in a stripe of land between the city of Costa da Caparica (PT) and the cliffs, the high-way and the ocean. Nearly five hundred people live in this informal settlement in Precarious shacks without water and sanitation. This project strives to create a community centre that provides an answer to the diverse needs and expectations of the people, the most important being bringing drinking water to the neighborhood. Initiated by ateliermob (PT) in 2012 and developed by projecto warehouse in 2013, Cozinha Comunitária is now in the funding/construction phase: the wooden structure, partly recycled from a previous project (Casa do Vapor, 2013) is designed to grow according to new functions and new resources, retracing the development of informal housing.
